Junea Projects Need You!

“Juneau Projects” is artists Phil Duckworth and Ben Sadler, who
have been working together on art and music projects since 2001. Based in
Birmingham, Juneau Projects make records, perform live and exhibit their
work in art galleries.

In the past the duo have used mobile phones, computers, camcorders,
dictaphones and CD walkmans in their work, often delighting audiences by
destroying them to make unexpected sounds. They are also interested in
nature and use characters and images of animals and birds to tell stories
about how we think and feel about nature in the 21st century.

This spring, Birmingham-based collaborative duo Juneau Projects will transform the artists’ studio at The New Art Gallery Walsall into a ‘drop-in’ recording studio where visitors can write and record songs in collaboration with the artists.

They are looking for all kinds of musicians and singers to work on a collaborative album. If you are interested in contributing to the project, drop in and see the duo at the New Art Gallery in Walsall.

During their two month residency, Juneau Projects will be developing their on-line record label Juneau Records, and with the participation of local bands and residents, they hope to develop a number of ‘new releases’. Juneau Records is an on-going collaborative project.

TRI-HARD-ERR with Kate Moross

Kate Moross is quickly becoming one of the most profilic new young illustrators and designers, receiving recognition for her work in the UK with projects with Dazed, Nike and Topshop. Her newest offering to the art world promises to support her ascent to success even further.

Concrete Hermit, London, are pleased to announce their next exhibition: “TRI-HARD-ERR” featuring Fused favourite Moross, intricate artist and force behind Anorak Magazine Supermundane and Chris Knight, founder and creative director at Concrete Hermit.

Fashion at Feed

Last night Matthew Boulton College celebrated the launch of their two brand new specialist design studios, ‘FEED Studio’ and ‘Fashion Lab’ with a fashion show for the finalists of the ‘PIN’ competition.

The aim of PIN is to profile the fashion talent of the West Midlands via a fashion competition. The final of the ‘PIN’ competition culminated on last night with 12 finalists going head-to-head on the runway, presenting their Spring/Summer 2008 collections. A panel of six judges from within the fashion industry chose the two winners from the two categories, Jenny Hardcastle from Solihull, Birmingham won the New Designer award and Shamrez Marawat from Moseley, Birmingham won the Young Business award. Each winner received £10k to develop their business.

News from Envy and Other Sins

After winning Mobile Act Unsigned Envy and Other Sins have been very busy boys.

Their new album is going to be called “We Leave At Dawn”, and the track list looks like this:

It is due out on the 31st March and follows single ‘Highness’ which is released on the 3rd March.

They are also heading out on a mammoth tour around the UK that takes in their hometown of Birmingham (Bar Academy 7th march). Check here for tour dates.

And if you want to know exactly all the things the boys have been up to since winning Mobile Act then “MobileAct – Envy & Other Sins – The Winner’s Story” will be shown on Channel 4 as follows: On Saturday the 1st of March at 9:00am and on Sunday the 30th of March at 9:30am.

Fused’s SxSW blog

We are going a little blogtastic of late but we thought that our new blog would be a great way for people to chart the journey of our adventures to this years SxSW with 5 bands from Birmingham.

It has been an interesting journey so far, being asked to join the event with a showcase, choosing bands, getting the bands through the application process, issues with funding and visas but people have been kind with their advice and now we have just a few weeks to go before it all happens.

Fused in Magma

Panic moves

Indie night Panic! is moving to a new home. Shaun Walsh’s big indie night is moving to the Q Club on corporation Street. The opening party night is on Saturday, February 23 at 10:00pm and includes 8 rooms of alternative music and ‘cheap booze’ (our favourite kind).

According to the Panic! and Resurrection site the move is down to refurbishment at
the Sanctuary.

Paul Hartnett

Fused favourite Paul Hartnett is having a retrospective exhibition at the VIBE Bar. Old Trueman Brewery, Brick Lane, London from the 14th February.

Celebrating 30 years of Street Culture Hartnett has captured everything from Punks to Nu Ravers with lots more inbetween.

The Exhibition is open everyday from 12pm-7pm from this Thursday until the 30th March.
